My Role

Solo project created for SUNY Fredonia Climate Design Blitz

Project Goal

To promote ethical fashion creating a sustainable brand and app. Created as a part of a 24 hour climate design blitz at SUNY Fredonia

Challenge

In 2023, I was able to be a part of SUNY Fredonia’s 24 hour climate design blitz. In 24 hours, artists and designers were asked to think of what our small town of Fredonia NY could look like if our climate crisis was solved. For my portion, I focused on ethical and sustainable fashion. Fast fashion accounts for a large portion of landfill waste, and is often thrown away in favor of ever changing trends. This is detrimental to our environment and ecosystems. I created “Terra Collective” as an alternative concept to fast fashion. Terra Collective is a sustainable fashion brand that recycles old, worn down materials as well as offering rental services for clothing. Then, Terra Collective partners with indie fashion brands and designers, to create new designs using these materials. This allows for ever changing styles, at an affordable and accessible price.

App Concept and Wireframes

One of the issues that came up when I was researching ideas, was the accessibility of sustainable fashion. I also based this on my own experience of trying to find brands that fit my own price point and style, but often ended up confused or dejected. Many people are drawn to fast fashion due to the price point and convenience. Ethical brands are often not affordable or as easy to order from. This app concept aims to make finding these brands much easier. Users can filter by price point, brand, material, and more. The app will even make customized recommendations based on a short “style quiz” that asks users what kinds of clothes or style they are specifically looking for. Users can also find links to social media or websites to read more and would link to partnered brands.
