Challenge

The purpose of this project was to design and create a cookbook from start to finish. I decided to theme my book around seasonal fall desserts. I chose a red and gold color palate to match the fall theme and decided to use a wire-o binding since it would allow the book to lay flat. I wanted my book to focus specifically on baking so I chose a theme I felt could be applicable. I settled on a seasonal theme since this could be relevant to a wide range. The color palette chosen reflects this theme since I wanted it to be easily understandable. In researching other books, I found that I wanted my book to be relatively simple so it could be picked up and read through easily. I also wanted a smaller size since it could be easily placed somewhere and picked up again. I figured this would make the book more accessible to a wider audience. I also opted to use a modular grid. Most of the books I looked at either used a column or modular grid. I found that the modular one gave me more flexibility. Initially, I wanted to include a mix of illustration and photography. I wanted my recipes to be photographed but would have illustrations throughout the book to accompany them and decorate the page. I found that this wouldn’t have been consistent however, and I decided to only use photography using images that were shot personally.
