My Role

Solo project completed as a part of Interactivity for the Web class Fall 2022

Project Goal

To create a streamlined, well designed website which reduces the amount of information on the page and promote adoption services

Challenge

As a part of my Interactivity for the Web class, I redesigned the Erie County SPCA's website. The current website functions fine but it is difficult to find certain pages like fostering information. There is also too much information on one page which can make it overwhelming. On the adoption page, some of the animals also don’t have imagery or descriptions. The goal of this project is a streamlined, well designed website which reduces the amount of information on the page and places donate, volunteer, and adoption buttons front and center

Research

The spca is an animal rescue and adoption center. Values include compassion towards animals, respect, and putting an end to animal cruelty through education. Mission: To create a more humane society through education, rescuing, protecting, and enhancing the lives of animals and nurturing the bond between animals and people. There is a lot of information available on the site so I minimized the amount of information on the page at once to. The primary Audience is ages 24-44. The audience includes all genders but women are more likely to adopt and keep pets. The target audience is “fence sitters” or people who want to adopt but aren’t sure where to go to do so yet.

Visual Development

My wireframes went through multiple design changes when compared to the final product. Most notably, the filtering features changed to be on the side of the page and the top option was replaced with adoption instructions. This was to make the process more clear as well as the UI more streamlined. Chosen filters were also made more obvious and users are able to switch between multiple different photos easily. The adoption, volunteering, events, and fostering options were also made more obvious on the front page to avoid having to navigate too long to find these options. The fostering page in particular was much harder to find than the others.
